2010 Ford Mustang: 10 Models and Counting

The Ford Motor Company produces ten Mustang models, an amazing number considering that the number of 'stangs sold has decreased over the years. However, the pony car segment is still an important one for Ford and a profitable one too: why sell a base 2010 Ford Mustang with a V6 and thin profit lines when you can sell a supercharged V8 model for twice the price and make some serious money from the deal?

2010 Ford Mustang

The 2010 Ford Mustang is a mid-cycle refresh meaning the car has undergone some important sheet metal, fascia and interior changes. These updates allow the 2010 Ford Mustang to keep pace with its nemesis, the Chevy Camaro, while offering all of the accouterments today's Mustang enthusiasts want.

There are aftermarket versions of the 2010 Ford Mustang also built including the Saleen S281 and 435S. But those models are over and beyond the ten sold by Ford, demonstrating the far reaching popularity of Ford's hot steed.

Ford still makes the Mustang affordable for first time car buyers, setting the price of the base V6 at $21,395. That car comes equipped with manually reclining two-way bucket seats, air-conditioning, four wheel disc brakes, ABS, 17 inch painted wheels, 5-speed manual transmission, electronic stability control and other features. Not a bad arrangement for a base car, but lacking the many appearance and sport items most steed drivers want.

Premium Packages

Beyond the base V6, Ford offers premium and convertible versions for $3000 and $5000 more respectively. These Mustangs offer power six-way reclining bucket seats, SYNC, ambient lighting and a premium sound system among other amenities.

The base V8 package for the 2010 Ford Mustang is the GT, retailing for $28,395. Powered by Ford's 4.6L V8 and paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, the GT offers 18 inch wide spoke href="http://www.andysautosport.com/rims.html">rims, premium sound system, dual stainless-steel bright rolled tip exhaust, deck lid, power dome hood, GT grille and fascia and other amenities.

Raw Power

The 2010 Ford Mustang line rounds out with four additional convertible and two coupe models: the GT Premium and GT500. That latter model is powered by a 5.4L supercharged 4-V V8 engine paired with a Tremec 6-speed manual transmission. Retailing for $46,725 ($5000 more for the convertible) the GT offers leather-trimmed Sport bucket seats with racing stripes, over-the-top racing stripe, Cobra badge on Shelby front fender and grille, aluminum hood (with dual heat extractors), 18 inch bright machined cast-aluminum wheels and a host of other interior, exterior and amenities.

Whichever 2010 Ford Mustang you buy you'll be taking part in a near half-century pony car campaign, the only model of its kind to survive uninterrupted. That's an amazing tribute for this iconic steed!
